What happens when we die?
Seventh-day Adventists understand death as rest, and resurrection as the hope.
Scripture often calls death sleep. “The living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing” (Ecclesiastes 9:5). Jesus says of a friend who has died, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep” (John 11:11), and then wakes him.
The hope is not a soul that drifts away. It is Christ’s return and a resurrection (1 Thessalonians 4:13–18). That is why Paul says to grieve, but not “as others do who have no hope.”
No date panic
“No one knows about that day or hour” (Matthew 24:36). Nothing here asks you to watch a calendar. The point is not fear about dates. It is confidence about the ending.
Other Christians understand this differently. This is a short answer to one question, not an official lesson.
If you are grieving
You can leave a private prayer request. No details required.
If you might hurt yourself, call or text 988 (US) or your local emergency number now. This guide is not a crisis line, and nobody here reads requests in real time.
