← 7th DAY

7th DAY is an independent guide for people exploring the Seventh-day Adventist faith. It is not the General Conference and not adventist.org.

A plain answer · free

Why Saturday?

The seventh day is a gift a rule protects.

In the Bible’s first story, God finishes the work and stops (Genesis 2:1–3). That is before any nation, and before any rule. Later the day is written into the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:8–11), and Jesus says it was made for people, not people for it (Mark 2:27).

The seventh day of the week is Saturday. The Bible counts days from evening to evening (Leviticus 23:32), so the day runs from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. Seventh-day Adventists keep it that way.

If it is only a rule

Tired people hear one more job. If it is a gift, the same sunset is a mercy: a whole day that is not for catching up.

Other Christians

Many Christians meet on Sunday. This page is not an argument against them. It answers one question: why Adventists keep Saturday.

This is a short answer from an independent guide. It is not an official lesson.
